T-Birds make minor move to acquire forward at trade deadline

As the WHL trade deadline wound down Sunday morning, the Seattle Thunderbirds snuck in one more deal.

In a minor move, Seattle sent a 2017 seventh-round draft pick to the Edmonton Oil Kings for 18-year-old forward Garan Magnes. The T-Birds decided to add another forward after an apparent injury to Owen Seidel, who has been a scratch for the last two games.

Magnes is a 6-foot, 194-pound winger from Edmonton who was in his second full season with the Oil Kings. In 18 games this year he has has one goal and two points. He appeared in 38 games last year with the Oil Kings and picked up four points.

With the deadline now come and gone, head coach Steve Konowalchuk has his team set as the T-Birds head into the stretch run. They sit in second place in the U.S. Division, trailing the Everett Silvertips by two points.

Seattle will be in Prince George Tuesday and Wednesday to take on the Cougars before hosting Regina on Friday and traveling to Everett on Saturday.
