The Mariners are trying out Seth Smith in the second spot in the batting order with Kyle Seager remaining at No. 5 against a right-handed starting pitcher, plus they’ll face old teammate Dustin Ackley in the series opener at Yankee Stadium on Friday.

First pitch is at 4:05 p.m. with the pregame show airing at 3 on 710 ESPN Seattle.
