Doug Baldwin stands by his criticism of the Seahawks’ offense

Sure, Doug Baldwin’s emotions were still running high less than an hour after Sunday’s loss to Dallas.

But it’s not as though he got caught up in the moment and let his frustration get the best of him. Baldwin, a guy who says he prides himself on always thinking before speaks, knew exactly what he was doing when he sounded off about the state of Seattle’s offense.

“I thought it needed to be said,” he told 710 ESPN Seattle’s “The Huddle” on Thursday.

The Seahawks produced a season-low 206 yards against Dallas, and afterward Baldwin used some choice words while lamenting their inability to move the ball despite all the talent they have on offense. But his frustration actually began a week earlier, he said.

Seattle scored 27 points and gained a season-high 403 yards in a Monday-night win over Washington, that despite having three touchdowns nullified by penalties. Baldwin sensed overconfidence stemming from all the media types “talking about how good we were” following that nationally-televised win. He even admitted that his postgame comments on Sunday were calculated to some degree.

“I felt like it needed to be said out loud so that we could stop with all the positive stuff and actually look at what needed to be corrected,” he said.

Through give games, Seattle ranks 20th or worse in total offense, passing and third-down conversion rate. Baldwin isn’t fingering any one area as the problem.

“It’s a little bit of everything, and like I said in the postgame interview, all of us collectively have got to come together and play better,” he said. “It’s not just one person, it’s not Russell, it’s not the offensive line, it’s not the receivers, it’s not the running backs, it’s not coaches.

“We all collaboratively have to come together and make this work and we’ve got to get back to the basics, and I honestly feel like we’re doing that this week.”
