Meet new Mariners first baseman Adam Lind

Adam Lind has played 10 seasons in Major League Baseball, but that doesn’t mean the Mariners’ new first baseman will be well-known in the clubhouse.

Seattle’s major offseason acquisition told “Danny, Dave and Moore” Monday that he has played against Robinson Cano during their days in the American League East – when he was with Toronto and Cano was with the Yankees – and that he knows pitcher Brad Mills, whom the Mariners recently signed as a non-roster spring-training invite. But aside from that, he has no relationship with any of his teammates. And that’s fine by him.

“That’s about the extent of knowledge I’ve got on this team so far, which is about how much I knew with the Brewers last year,” said Lind, who played for Milwaukee last season after spending his first nine years in Toronto. “I feel like I blend in and mix well. I love to play the game so usually people enjoy that, when you actually enjoy to play baseball.”

A few more highlights from the interview:

On his souped-up man cave, which he calls a “man pavilion”: “It’s got four steel beams that hold it up, with a roof. It’s got collapsing doors, so it completely opens up. Four TVs, a bar, a fireplace, charging station. Two panels on the bar are metal because I have a bottle-opening collection from all the places I’ve been. It’s just a place to come out and watch football with the dudes I live close to.”

Thoughts about Seattle: “I always enjoyed my time in Seattle. I know there’s good food. My wife’s excited to find some good nail ladies out there.”

His reaction to being traded to the M’s in December: “I was at home. I just got back from the gym. I really didn’t have much reaction … I got a call from the Brewers’ general manager, David Stearns. They told me I was traded. And then like 10 minutes later, Jerry Dipoto called me and welcomed me to the Mariners.”

His hobbies: Football, wine and cooking. “I don’t know if I’m a good cook, but I’m creative. I try new things. We have a bottle of wine while we eat dinner and chase the kids around.”

Most memorable home runs “Probably the one home run I hit at old Yankee stadium on the last day of the season in 2006. Cool to say you hit a home run at old Yankee Stadium, and I hit a couple last year at Wrigley and Fenway. So those are probably my favorites.”
