Huskies’ Andrew Andrews wins 2nd Pac-12 Player of the Week award this season

For the second time this season and third time in his career, senior Washington Huskies guard Andrew Andrews has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week.

Andrews had a huge weekend to help UW jump out to a 2-0 start in conference play, averaging 29.5 points and six rebounds per game and shooting 50 percent from 3-point land over the two games.

He tied his career high with 35 points points in a double-overtime win Friday over No. 25 UCLA, making 17 of 19 free throws and scoring seven of Washington’s 13 points in the second and final overtime. He followed up on Sunday with 24 points in a victory over USC, including the go-ahead basket with 25 seconds to go to cap off Washington’s comeback from 22 down with 13 minutes left.

Andrews, who has scored 20 points or more in eight of his 14 games and has a double-digit scoring streak of 25 games, is the first Washington player since Isaiah Thomas (2010-11) to earn multiple conference player of the week honors. He previously won the award on Nov. 30.

This season, the 6-foot-2 Portland native is averaging 21.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He is shooting 38.5 percent from the field, 41.4 percent from beyond the arc and 83.5 percent on free throws.

The Huskies (10-4 overall, 2-0 Pac-12) continue play at noon Saturday in Pullman against Washington State.
