This week’s fearless picks

When you go 3-0 picking games last week, you certainly cannot quit on top, or at least I cannot. Let’s see what we can figure out for this week…

The Huskies: Well that’s easy, a bye. However, don’t count me amongst those who think the bye was well-timed for UW. After a disaster like the Nebraska game, the last thing you want to do is spend your time thinking about it and worse, constantly answering questions about it. I’m sure Jake Locker and company would rather be playing, but so be it.

The Cougars: Now these guys need every week to be a bye. Sure, the loss wasn’t as embarrassing at SMU, in context. Being a 23-point underdog to that team was embarrassment enough.
Now it’s league play and big bad 3-0 USC. The thing is, USC doesn’t seem that big or bad but they are playing like a team that is used to winning, which they are. The Cougs not only play like a team that expects to lose, you get the sense they know it. Paul Wulff’s tenure grows shakier by the week, though there is some hope with Jeff Tuel. Not much, but some.

USC 49, WSU 14

The Seahawks: Tremendous challenge with the perennial AFC West champs. The Chargers are another team used to winning and forced six turnovers in their rout of Jacksonville last week. Even without L.T. and Vincent Jackson, Philip Rivers has a lot of weapons and will throw the ball down field more then the ‘Hawks have seen in their first two games combined. San Diego, with their big linebacker corps, will really challenge the ‘Hawks nascent running game, which did nail 100 yards last week. San Diego has also won plenty of big games on the road. I think they make a few big plays and steal a win here…like they usually do…

San Diego 24, Seattle 21

Upset special: Dallas vs. Houston

I need to pick three, so here goes. This is my preseason Super Bowl pick by the way. Houston has come flying out of the gate while the Cowboys are playing for their lives. The last time Dallas started 0-3, they went 5-11. That will get Wade Phillips fired just like it did Dave Campo. Matt Schaub threw for nearly 500 yards last week and Arian Foster is the discovery of the year. If you think Matt Hasselbeck is hearing it, you should see what they are saying about Tony Romo down there. The season may be on the line for Dallas. I say they come through.
