Conor McGregor out to ‘educate’ fans that he’s this generation’s best

Irish UFC superstar “The Notorious” Conor McGregor does not shy away from braggadocio, and he certainly isn’t starting now as he nears the biggest fight of his career to date.

The 26-year-old featherweight is 16-2-0 in his pro career, over four years removed from his last defeat. And if he can keep his winning streak going Sunday against Dennis Siver on UFC Fight Night from Boston, he’s guaranteed a shot at the featherweight title.

As McGregor told Bob Stelton on 710 ESPN Seattle’s “Get in the Cage,” he’s not just looking to lock up a championship opportunity when he steps in the cage with Siver, he’s also looking to show that he backs up what he says.

“I will begin to show this is not talking trash, this is not a personality,” McGregor said. “This is the next world champion we are looking at, this is the greatest fighter of our generation. That is what I feel I am … I’m not looking to prove anything. I’m looking to educate. I will educate people on what they are witnessing here.”

The UFC fans won’t be alone in receiving an education. That’s what McGregor’s been doing on his ascent to the top of the rankings, educating himself to evolve his style in training.

“I am better than I was last week. That is the rate I feel I am at right now,” he said. “I will go back three months, post-(Dustin) Poirier fight, I feel I have taken my training to a level that has become about less resistance and about more movement, about more freedom of the anatomy and gaining comfort in the body … Since I have put these thoughts into practice my skill level has gone through the roof.”
