Spring Practice at Husky Stadium

-by Mike Salk

Since everyone keeps telling me how big college football is here in Seattle, I decided to make my way to Huskies practice and see what Steve Sarkisian’s squad is all about.

So, after getting lost and sitting in Saturday traffic (really? 3 lanes shut down on the freeway for construction? REALLY?), I had the opportunity to see some drills at Husky Stadium. All I know is this: good thing it’s spring and not late summer!

I didn’t get to see a whole lot of Jake Locker last season, but based on an admitedly small sample size today, there are some accuracy issues that seem to be unresolved. His decisions need to be made more quickly and the throws need to be on target. I think I saw him throw INT’s on nearly a quarter of his attempts! Not great…

Obviously, that’s the bad news. The good news is this:

1. It’s only spring and Locker is just getting himself acquainted with a new offensive system. I’m willing to reserve judgement. Are you?

2. The defensive backfield looked pretty solid. Someone had to make those INT catches!

3. Pretty decent attendance for a team that didn’t win a game all last year. Maybe Tweeting has helped! Are Husky fans going to give this team a chance?
