New stadium drawings…You’ve gotta see this
There have been drawings circulating the web this week of the proposed changes to Martin Stadium and if these are actually approved…let’s just say this: WOW.
Of course, we’ve posted numerous proposed Martin Stadium changes here on this very blog over the years and have seen none come to fruition.
Why does this one feel like it’s about to happen? Two reasons:
1. Bill Moos
2. The new Pac-12 TV deal (go here, here or here for more details on the deal expected to be announced today. Needless to say, there’s a big influx of cash headed the way of each school)
Built directly in to the timeline delivered to the WSU Regents for this stadium approval is the Pac-12 renegotiations and even the expected first payment on that deal.
The highlights of that timeline are as follows:
May 2011 – Seek Regents approval on schematic design
August 2011 – Pac 12 Negotiations complete and contract signed
November 2011 – Begin demolition after last home football game
August 2012 – Complete construction for press box and certain suites in time for first home game. Balance of project still in construction.
July 2013 – First Pac 12 contract payment received
August 2013 – Entire facility construction complete
For more information and more proposed mock-ups, click here and take a look. The project as a whole is very impressive and not only includes upgrades to the stadium, but the football-only facility that Moos has wanted since day one, and upgrades to the areas around the stadium itself.
In the past two seasons, the football experience in Pullman has improved dramatically and this will only push it over the top. If approved this will be a jaw-dropping facility and unlike any in college football, it’s right in the middle of campus. Incredible. Let’s just hope for approval…
Go Cougs!
