Sounders overcome Montero’s ejection, tie Fire 1-1

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) – The Seattle Sounders overcame the ejection of Fredy Montero and tied 1-1 with the unbeaten Chicago Fire on Saturday night.

Montero, who has a team-high three goals, got a red card in the 48th minute for elbowing Fire defender Gonzalo Segares in the head as both players leaped for the ball.

In the 68th minute, Chicago (2-0-5) took a 1-0 lead on Marco Pappa’s third goal of the season.

The goal was also the first given up by Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Keller, whose season-opening shutout streak lasted 457 minutes. The former U.S. national team star is 4-0-1 with four shutouts.

Six minutes later, Tyrone Marshall was unmarked at the back post on Freddie Ljungberg’s corner and tapped the ball in past goalkeeper Jon Busch for his first goal since 2007.

After its fourth consecutive tie, Chicago remained the only unbeaten team in MLS and extended its franchise-record unbeaten run to seven games.
