Sounders FC notebook: Brad Evans returns to training

TUKWILA – On the first day of training following three days off, Sounders FC participated in a fairly light session on Tuesday to get back into the groove as they prepare for Saturday’s home match against Montreal Impact.

A number of players are still away on international duty, but at least one player returned for his first full training session in weeks: captain Brad Evans.

After dislocating his shoulder following a clash with Sporting KC’s Dom Dwyer, Evans has been taking it easy in order to lessen the risk of re-injury. He said that he’ll be wearing a shoulder brace for an unspecified amount of time, and that how he plays in the next few matches could determine whether or not he continues to wear the brace.

Neither Evans nor Sounders coach Sigi Schmid indicated that Evans would definitely be available on Saturday, but it seems like a definite possibility if he progresses in the next few days of training.

Schmid also suggested that his weekend off was more than a vacation, letting slip to the media after training on Tuesday that he also attended a live match while he was away.

“Can’t say,” Schmid said for fear of revealing his location and getting him into hot water with his superiors.

The Sounders are definitely in the market for at least one new signing, as head scout Kurt Schmid and sporting director Chris Henderson were both seen on scouting trips in the last few weeks. General manager Garth Lagerwey has also hinted multiple times in recent weeks that the Sounders could make some big signings in the near future.

England-born defender Tyrone Mears earned his green card this week, making him a permanent resident of the United States. This opens up another international roster slot, in addition to the one received from Toronto FC in the offseason.

Schmid also indicated that defender Roman Torres could be added to the injured reserve list, giving the club another open international slot until Torres returns from injury.
