Hello, my name is: Steve Clevenger, Mariners catcher
We’re introducing some of the Mariners’ offseason additions and lesser-known players during spring training. Here’s a personal look at Steve Clevenger.

• Position: Catcher
• Height/weight/age: 5-10/210/29
• Hometown: Baltimore, Md.
• How acquired: Via trade from Baltimore for Mark Trumbo and C.J. Riefenhauser.
His first baseball memory: A Baltimore native who went from an Orioles fan to playing for the O’s, Clevenger remembers a parade his little league would take through the city. “I played in a little intramural league in Baltimore City and we used to have a big parade that would go through the city. I think it would start down by Camden Yards and work its way to the park that we played at.”
His favorite baseball player growing up: This should come as no surprise – Cal Ripken. Though he admits Joe Orsulak was his first favorite Oriole, Ripken eventually became “the obvious choice.” Clevenger said he was even in attendance at the Ironman’s record-breaking 2,131st straight MLB game.
His favorite baseball moment before making the majors: Going to play at Southeastern Louisiana University. “I would say signing my letter of intent to go to college. Nobody in my family had gone to college and it was a good opportunity for me to go and play ball outside of the state of Maryland.”
Favorite course in college: “Definitely tennis. I took tennis my first year and had some pretty good times.”
Favorite cartoon growing up: “Scooby-Doo.”
Favorite video game: “Resident Evil.”
Tattoos: One. “It is of a skull in a cowboy hat. I got it when I was in Tennessee. I don’t know why I got it. I just wanted a tattoo and I got it.”
Favorite home-cooked meal his mom makes: “She makes a really good meatloaf. It’s a good, hearty meal with vegetables and potatoes and carrots. It’s really good.”
Favorite movie: “Definitely the ‘Halloween’ series. I’m a big scary movie guy.”
Favorite city to visit on the road: “I really enjoyed playing in St. Louis,” said Clevenger, who broke into the majors with the rival Cubs. “I like the stadium. It’s a big stadium. Baseball atmosphere. It’s good to play there on the road.”
Go-to karaoke song: “My Own Worst Enemy” by Lit. “I remember singing it with the Cubs. I’m not a big singer, but it’s pretty easy lyrics.”
