Gomes homers to help Indians beat Mariners 4-1

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — Yan Gomes hit his fifth spring homer and drove in three runs, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 4-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.

Gomes hit a sacrifice fly in the first, and then connected for a two-run shot against Taijuan Walker in the third.

Josh Tomlin, who is competing for the fifth spot in Cleveland’s rotation, struck out 10 in six scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and walked none.

Walker pitched five innings, allowing three runs and six hits. He struck out seven and walked two.

Daniel Robertson had an RBI single in the ninth for Seattle.
