Only one team from the state of Washington is in the NCAA Tournament field, Gonzaga taking the 11th seed in the Midwest.

The Bulldogs, who are 26-7 overall, shared the regular season West Coast Conference title with St. Mary’s and won the WCC tournament, will be matched up with No. 6 seed Seton Hall in Denver on Friday.

The Washington Huskies, figured to be a long shot to make the tournament with an 18-14 overall record, were indeed left off the bracket. They now await news on a possible spot in one of the four other postseason college basketball tournaments – the NIT, College Basketball Invitational, CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament and Vegas 16.

Gonzaga is making its 18th straight trip and 19th overall to the NCAA Tournament. The No. 11 seed is the Zags’ lowest since 2011, when they were also an 11 seed, and is tied for the second-lowest seed they’ve been issued during their current tournament streak.

The Bulldogs are led by the athletic forward duo of Kyle Wiltker (20.7 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game) and Domantas Sabonis (17.4 ppg, 11.6 rpg). Guards Eric McClellan (10.6 ppg) and Josh Perkins (10.3 ppg, 4.0 assists per game) are also key players. They took a big hit in January when 7-foot-1, 304-pound center Przemek Karnowski underwent season-ending back surgery.

Gonzaga’s first-round matchup, Seton Hall, is 25-8 overall and coming off an upset over top-seeded Villanova in the Big East tournament championship game.

Seven Pac-12 teams made the bracket, led by Oregon, which grabbed the first No. 1 seed in the school’s history.
