Report: Seahawks could bring back Chris Clemons

In need of pass-rush help after Bruce Irvin’s expected departure, the Seahawks are reportedly considering a reunion with Chris Clemons.

Albert Breer of the NFL Network reported Wednesday morning that Clemons is on his way to town to visit with the Seahawks and that “If things go well, he could sign.”

Clemons, 34, started 59 games and recorded 38 sacks for Seattle from 2010 to 2013. He was acquired in a trade that marked one of the first – and ultimately most shrewd – moves from general manager John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll. Clemons was released after the 2013 and spent the last two seasons with Jacksonville, which released him last week.

The question with Clemons, who will turn 35 in October, is how productive he can still be at this stage of his career. He hasn’t missed a game in two years, recording eight sacks in 2014 as a full-time starter and three last year while starting eight games.

Clemons figures to be an inexpensive option considering his age. And just as important, especially for Seattle, he wouldn’t count against the compensatory-pick equation because he was released by Jacksonville.
