NFL draft prospect Travis Feeney out of UW Pro Day after sports hernia surgery

Travis Feeney is the Washington Huskies’ top prospect in the 2016 NFL Draft, but the linebacker won’t be able to participate in UW’s Pro Day next week after recently undergoing sports hernia surgery, according to NFLDraftScout.com.

Feeney, named second-team All-Pac-12 after recording 17.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks in 2015, went to Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia for the surgery. Meyers also performed sports hernia surgery on both Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch and Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano in the past six months.

At 6 foot 4 and 230 pounds, Feeney turned heads at the East-West Shrine Game and NFL Combine due to his combination of length, speed and athleticism. He played in the Huskies’ BUCK pass-rushing role last season, but his experience as an outside linebacker dropping back in coverage may be more attractive to NFL teams.

The sports hernia issue adds more weight to concerns about his durability, which has been his biggest question mark heading into the draft. He’s also had several shoulder surgeries in his career.

UW’s Pro Day is set for next Thursday.
